RC takes 10th straight

PONTIAC, Mich. -- There isn't much to say about this Supercross season other than it's all but over with. Ricky Carmichael has shocked the community and at this point, appears to be unbeatable. Just like Jeremy McGrath in 1996, RC is on a season-long high.

Carmichael came into round 13 in Pontiac with a dominant point lead and a stellar win streak. And when the main event came around, RC didn't look like he was ready to give up either one.

Kevin Windham took the holeshot at the start of the main but as the pattern has been set, Carmichael wasted no time jumping in front and putting a little distance on the rest of the pack. Lusk ran up front off the start and once again, Mike LaRocco pulled off a good start to finish lap one in fourth. McGrath sat just outside the top five.

Carmichael set the pace while Windham and Lusk battled for second. After a couple laps, Lusk got by Windham as did LaRocco and McGrath. But McGrath came by the mechanic's area shaking his head and in turn, dropped a few positions. MC's mechanic was unsure what was wrong but it must have disappeared shortly after, because McGrath started charging again.

By the midway point, Carmichael was only able to pull a five second lead on second place Lusk. Lusk was setting the fastest lap times of the night, but Carmichael's consistency wouldn't allow him to catch up.

LaRocco stayed in a quiet third, but behind him, at the end, the real racing was for fourth. By the last lap, McGrath, Windham and Tim Ferry and all latched onto each other. But they would finish in that order, as MC held off Windham and Ferry bobbled with only a few corners to go.

RC took his 11th win of the season, 10th in a row.

"I tried to cut out front as fast as I could and put in some hard laps," Carmichael said. "Ezra was keeping me honest out there. He was riding fast. Things weren't looking too good after my heat race, but I was able to come up with the win. There's still three rounds left and I'm glad to be able to go into this break with a win."

The series will take a break for week before returning to Dallas for round 14.
