Friday, July 6 Change to debut at New Hampshire ESPN.com news services DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR Winston Cup qualifying now will consist of just one lap around most of the circuit's tracks of at least one mile, officials announced Friday. The change goes into effect at the New England 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway on July 20. Previously, teams took two qualifying laps at all tracks. The change was announced during qualifying for this weekend's Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway, one of the five tracks not affected by the change. Also unaffected is the two-mile Talladega Superspeedway. Short tracks that will continue to use two laps are the Bristol Motor Speedway, Richmond International Raceway and Martinsville Speedway. |
