NASCAR to meet at Gibbs shop
Associated Press

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- NASCAR meets this week with teams and drivers to discuss ideas for a new aerodynamic package in response to complaints about superspeedway racing.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday at Joe Gibbs Racing's headquarters. All drivers, crew chiefs and car owners have been invited to attend the brainstorming session, NASCAR spokesperson Danielle Humphrey said.

The session is a result of driver complaints following the race at Talladega Superspeedway two weeks ago. Because of the current aero package and the use of restrictor plates, racing at Talladega and Daytona consists of tight packs of cars that often lead to violent multicar crashes.

That happened at Talladega, with a 16-car wreck on the final lap of the race. Angry drivers and crew chiefs then stormed to the NASCAR hauler to discuss the current rules package with officials.

NASCAR promised to address the complaints and make changes before returning to Daytona next February. Thursday's meeting will be the first step.

"I think it's good to get everybody involved," car owner Rick Hendrick said. "When you let people have input, and then you come up with a decision and they're part of the decision, then they can't complain about it.

"It's really important. We're all stakeholders in this deal."
