Massive sponsorship boost for Tykes

Powergen Cup winners Leeds Tykes have received a massive sponsorship boost ahead of the start of the new season with the announcement that main club sponsors Leeds & Holbeck Building Society have agreed a new two year contract with the club.

The deal was officially unveiled today along with new signing British Lion Gordon Bulloch at Leeds & Holbeck's Head Office in Leeds.

Leeds & Holbeck Building Society, the eighth largest building society in the UK, have been the main club sponsor since the Yorkshire club were first promoted into the Premiership and the new sponsorship worth over £300,000 continues that valued support.

Commenting on the announcement Leeds Tykes Chief Executive Gary Hetherington said, "We are delighted that Leeds & Holbeck Building Society have agreed to continue their support of the club. Over the past five years we have seen our relationship grow, culminating in the Powergen Cup Final last season in front of 60,000 people at Twickenham and millions of TV viewers.

"Leeds & Holbeck Building Society have been tremendous supporters of the club and showed a lot of faith in the Tykes when we were first promoted. That faith has now been rewarded and it is great that they will be part of our future success. We are proud to represent Yorkshire in the Guinness Premiership and this season in the cream of northern hemisphere rugby, the Heineken Cup, and it is good news that Leeds & Holbeck are going to remain at the very heart of our club. They also support the Rhinos through the affinity account. The donations from this account over the last 5 years have helped us develop new playing talent in the community and through our academy," added Hetherington.

Ian Ward, Leeds & Holbeck Chief Executive said, "I am delighted to announce our continued support of the Tykes which demonstrates our commitment to the club and its supporters. This year will be our fifth year as main sponsor and, when the
deal began, we could not have imagined such a young club winning the Powergen Cup so early in its history.

"We are the only independent financial services organisation with a Head Office in Leeds and we employ around 600 staff in the city. Leeds is very important to us and we support all the major sports teams here. We have affinity accounts with Leeds Rugby, supporting the Rhinos and Tykes, Leeds United and Yorkshire County Cricket Club.

"These accounts pay an excellent rate of interest and have special introductory offers for the fans. We then donate 1 per cent of the total balances each year to the clubs, helping them challenge on the field and develop the grass roots of their game."
