Dan Dakich

Dakich moved right from being a player for the Hoosiers to the coaching side of the game. After completing his playing career in 1984-85, he became a member of Knight's staff as a graduate assistant the following season. By 1990, Dakich had become Knight's top assistant coach. Dakich is still the only basketball player ever for Knight who has moved directly to an assistant coaching position without first leaving the program.

After staying in Knight's program for several years, Dakich has moved on and is now a successful head coach at Bowling Green University. Maybe more importantly, though, Dakich has been one of Coach Knight's most outspoken supporters amidst the turmoil of the last 2 or 3 years.

Ironically, it was Dakich who reportedly was on the other line when Knight overheard Ron Felling criticizing him.
