Kohn Smith

Coach Knight's assistant from 1981 through 1987, he proved to be an invaluable mediator between Knight and the Indiana players. Never has there been a Knight assistant who could provide a balance to the fire-breathing General like Smith could. As temperamental and explosive and Knight could be, Kohn Smith was equally balanced and soothing. When Knight would banish a Hoosier under a shelling of insults and profanities, it was Smith who would be sent to the locker room to console the player.

After his stint at IU, Kohn moved on to coach Utah State.
