Stojko will compete in Vancouver

Skate Canada is pleased to announce that Elvis Stojko has been named to the 2001World Championship team to compete in Vancouver March 19-25.

Skate Canada officials were on site at the Elvis Stojko Arena in Richmond Hill yesterday when Elvis did complete run throughs of both his short and free skating programs.

Stojko completed all his triple jumps including the triple Axel and also performed the two quadruple jumps that are planned for his free program, in addition to a quadruple-triple combination.

"We are very pleased with Elvis' recuperative powers," said David Dore, Skate Canada Director General who was present at the monitoring session. "He has demonstrated that he is well on the way to recovery and there is definitely an indication that he will be 100% for Vancouver."

Stojko will resume training in Philadelphia with Uschi Kezler until his departure for Worlds mid-March.

This will be Stojko's 11th career Worlds since 1990. He holds three gold, two silver and one bronze medal.
