The scene shifts to the Four Continents

The United States Figure Skating Association announced the list of competitors that will represent the U.S. at the 2001 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, Feb. 7-10.

The Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, now in its third year, will serve as the official test event for the figure skating competition at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. The Four Continents is one of two senior-level ISU continental championships, sharing that distinction with the European Championships.

1996 World champion and five-time U.S. champion Todd Eldredge will lead the U.S. men at the Four Continents. Coming off a silver medal performance at the 2001 U.S. Championships, Eldredge, who placed fourth in the 2000 Four Continents Championships, will be joined by two-time U.S. champion and World bronze medalist Michael Weiss and current U.S. bronze medalist Matt Savoie.

In the ladies competition, current U.S. bronze medalist and defending Four Continents champion Angela Nikodinov will again lead the U.S. contingent that includes 2000 World Junior champion Jennifer Kirk and 1999 Four Continents silver medalist Amber Corwin. Kirk and Corwin finished fourth and fifth respectively at the 2001 U.S. Championships.

In pairs, two-time U.S. champions and reigning Four Continents silver medalists Kyoko Ina & John Zimmerman will be joined by U.S. silver medalists Tiffany Scott & Philip Dulebohn and U.S. bronze medalists Danielle Hartsell & Steve Hartsell.

In dance, the U.S. will be led by the two-time U.S. champions and defending Four Continents champions Naomi Lang & Peter Tchernyshev. Joining Lang & Tchernyshev will be U.S. bronze medalists Jessica Joseph & Brandon Forsyth and Beata Handra & Charles Sinek, who finished fourth in the 2001 U.S. championships. Handra and Sinek placed fifth in the 2000 Four Continents Championships.

In addition to the U.S., ISU nations invited to compete include; Australia, Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, Hong Kong/ China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Mongolia, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, South Africa, Thailand and Uzbekistan.
