Deering scores late into stoppage time in tie

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Chad Deering scored in the ninth minute of stoppage time as the Dallas Burn rallied to tie Columbus 1-1 on Saturday night in a game delayed by an injury and lightning.

Antonio Martinez looped a 35-yard pass to Deering, who faked left and sent a 6-yard shot past goalkeeper Tom Presthus.

The Crew opened the scoring in the 66th minute on a goal by Jeff Cunningham, his fourth of the season.

Burn defender Ryan Suarez went down with a back injury midway through the second half after a collision with Edson Buddle. Suarez was taken off the field on a stretcher, with the delay leading to 10 minutes of stoppage time.

The game was then delayed for 46 minutes after the first overtime because of lightning.

Columbus was without U.S. World Cup forward Brian McBride. Dallas is the only MLS team without a World Cup player.
