EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Mamadou Diallo, acquired Friday in
the biggest trade in MLS history, scored a goal as the New York-New
Jersey MetroStars tied Kansas City 1-1 on Saturday night.
Chris Klein scored his third goal of the season to give Kansas
City (2-3-3) the lead in the opening minutes of the game. His hard
shot slipped past goalkeeper Tim Howard.
Diallo, the league's leading scorer in 2000 while playing for
Tampa Bay, tied it for the MetroStars (3-5-2) in the 42nd minute.
The play began when fellow newcomer Andy Williams made a touch
pass to Tab Ramos, who fed Diallo in the penalty area. Diallo's low
shot eluded Wizards' goalkeeper Bo Oshoniyi.
The MetroStars acquired Diallo in a six-player deal that sent
Diego Serna to New England. Midfielder Daniel Hernandez and
defender Brian Kamler also were sent to New England for Diallo,
midfielder Williams and defender Ted Chronopoulos.
