PASADENA, Calif. (AP) -- Sasha Victorine, Alexi Lalas and Brian
Mullan scored to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 3-0 victory over the
Dallas Burn on Saturday night.
The Galaxy (6-5-2) moved into a tie for second place in the
Western Division with the Burn (5-3-5), six points behind San Jose.
"I didn't think we had a very good performance,'' Dallas coach
Mike Jeffries said. "We gave away too many fouls in dangerous
areas, and they ended up scoring off of those. I thought the first
goal would decide this game.''
Victorine broke a scoreless tie in the 58th minute when he took
a crossing pass from Alejandro Moreno and headed the ball in from
six yards out.
"It lifted a big burden off our shoulders,'' Victorine said of
the goal. "The starting midfielders hadn't produced, and we need
this to get us going.''
Lalas made it 2-0 in the 69th minute by scoring inside the left
post. A double-teamed Victorine set up the play with a back-heel
pass to Gavin Glinton, who crossed the ball from the left wing to
Lalas.
Glinton's breakaway run enabled Mullan to score in the 81st
minute. Dallas goalkeeper Matt Jordan tipped Glinton's shot to
Mullan, who converted from four yards away.
Los Angeles goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, in just his fourth start
of the season, made four saves for his 34th career shutout.
