Twellman has scored 22 goals this season

DALLAS (AP) -- Taylor Twellman scored two goals as the New England Revolution defeated the Dallas Burn 2-1 on Saturday night.

Twellman, who came into the game tied for the MLS scoring lead with 45 points, boosted his goal total to 22 on the season.

The Revolution (11-14-2) can clinch a playoff berth with a victory next Saturday against the New York-New Jersey MetroStars. New England can also advance to the postseason with a tie and a loss by either Kansas City or Chicago.

The Burn (11-9-7) dropped its third consecutive game.

New England took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute when Twellman booted a penalty kick inside the right post. The goal came after Dallas defender Ryan Suarez was given a red card and ejected for stopping Wolde Harris' shot with his hands.

Twellman, who owns the team record for goals in a season, extended the Revolution lead when he took a crossing pass from Steve Ralston and headed it past Burn goalkeeper Matt Jordan in the 64th minute.

Dallas scored on a penalty kick from Jorge Rodriguez in the 81st minute. The scored ended New England goalkeeper Adin Brown's scoreless streak at 285 minutes.

The Burn missed some chances in the opening half. Dallas forward Bobby Rhine's header from 12 yards hit the left post and bounced away in the 12th minute. Three minutes later, midfielder Joselito Vaca's shot from six yards out was knocked away by Brown.

Dallas midfielder Oscar Pareja missed the game because he is serving a one-game suspension for accumulating 11 caution points in three games. He received a red card on Sept. 5 against the MetroStars.
