ATLANTA (AP) -- Unni Lehn's goal in the 58th minute led Carolina
to a 3-1 win over the Atlanta Beat on Saturday night and pushed the
Courage into second place in the WUSA standings.
Birgit Prinz scored in the 77th minute for the final margin.
Atlanta's unbeaten streak ended at five games as the Beat played
without leading scorer Charmaine Hooper, who served a one-game
suspension for wearing an unauthorized t-shirt under her jersey
June 9 at New York.
Carolina (5-1-3), which defeated Atlanta 1-0 earlier this year,
improved to 4-0-1 against the Beat.
Atlanta (5-4-1), which had won four straight, lost after scoring
first for the only time in club history.
Homare Sawa, who in the first 25 minutes had one goal disallowed
because of a hand ball foul against Sun Wen, and missed another
wide right, gave Atlanta a 1-0 advantage in the 32nd minute, when
her shot from 30 yards out grazed the fingertips of Kristin
Luckenbill and found the net.
Carolina squared the match on Danielle Fotopolous' goal in the
45th minute, ending Briana Scurry's scoreless streak at 376
minutes.
Atlanta's Kylie Bivens received her fourth yellow-card caution
in the 54th minute and will have to sit out the Beat's game June 22
vs. San Jose.
