VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) -- Marinette Pichon scored two goals as the
Philadelphia Charge defeated the Atlanta Beat 3-1 Saturday night.
The win enabled Philadelphia (8-1-3) to stretch its unbeaten
streak to seven games with its fourth win in that span. The Charge
also remains the league's only undefeated team at home, at 4-0-2.
Sun Wen had the only goal for Atlanta (6-5-1), which lost for
just the second time in its last seven contests.
Erica Iverson scored her first career goal early in the second
half with a header into the right side of the net off a pass from
Heather Mitts in the 47th minute to give Philadelphia a 2-0
advantage.
The Charge took a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute when Zhao Lihong
sent a left crossing pass that found Pichon for a diving header
past goalkeeper Briana Scurry.
Cindy Parlow almost tied it for Atlanta during first half injury
time, but her right-footed shot was turned aside by goalie Melissa
Moore.
After Pichon was stopped on a breakaway in the 59th minute, she
connected on a left-footed shot for her ninth goal of the season in
the 73rd minute to give the Charge a 3-0 lead.
Pichon took over the league lead in goals as she had her third
two-goal game of the season.
Wen broke the shutout with a left-footed shot in the 80th
minute.
