UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -- Julie Fleeting scored in the 90th minute
to lift the San Diego Spirit to a 1-0 victory over the New York
Power on Saturday night.
The Power extended their league-record losing streak to nine
games. They dropped to 2-13-1.
Goalkeeper Saskia Webber had difficulty communicating with
defender Ronnie Fair and Fleeting was able to get between the two
and score her second goal of the season.
Carly Smolak made three saves for San Diego (4-8-4) in her first
WUSA shutout. Her toughest one came in the 68th minute, when she
dove to her left to stop a shot by Jacelyn Raveia on a corner kick.
Both teams played the match without several key players. San
Diego was without Joy Fawcett, Julie Foudy, and Shannon MacMillan.
New York was without Anita Rapp, Linda Ormen, and Tiffeny Milbrett.
All are with their respective national teams.
San Diego midfielder Shannon Boxx served a one-game suspension.
