Prinz's two goals pace Courage

CARY, N.C. (AP) -- Birgit Prinz had two goals and an assist as the Carolina Courage earned a WUSA playoff berth with a 4-1 victory over the San Jose CyberRays on Saturday.

Prinz assisted on a second-half goal by Danielle Fotopolous, while Danielle Slaton scored the go-ahead goal in the 59th minute to help the Courage (11-5-3) end a three-game losing streak.

San Jose (8-7-4) came in with a two-game winning streak, but dropped to 1-4-3 on the road with the loss.

With the score tied 1-1, Slaton put Carolina ahead to stay from the wing, taking a pass from Tiffany Roberts and chipping the ball to the far post over goalkeeper LaKeysia Beene.

Fotopolous followed with her 10th goal, taking a ball from Prinz and beating two defenders in the 70th minute. Prinz scored two minutes later, taking a pass from Fotopolous on a breakaway and beating Beene for her 11th goal.

Prinz gave Carolina a 1-0 lead with a shot from inside the box in the 15th minute. San Jose's Tisha Venturini-Hoch tied it in the 26th minute, scoring off a centering pass from Katia.
