BOSTON (AP) -- Bettina Wiegmann and Angela Hucles each scored and
had an assist as the Boston Breakers beat the New York Power 4-1
Sunday.
The Breakers (5-8-7) took the lead on Dagny Mellgren's goal in
the fifth minute. Mellgren, third in the WUSA with 11 goals, has
scored five against New York this season.
Hucles made it 2-0 in the 34th minute on assists from Maren
Meinert and Kristine Lilly. Meinert picked up two assists to take
the league lead with 14, and Lilly extended her points streak to
nine games.
New York (3-15-1) cut the lead to 2-1 when Tammy Pearman scored
in the 51st minute, beating Karina LeBlanc on a breakaway.
Wiegmann scored in the 60th minute, and Allison Kemp scored her
second goal in as many games to make it 4-1 in the 80th minute.
Even though the Breakers are out of playoff contention, they
remained unbeaten at home at 4-0-5. Their season finale against is
San Jose next Saturday.
New York has lost 11 of its last 12 games, giving up 40 goals
over that stretch. The Breakers swept the season series with New
York after losing three times to the Power in 2001.
