Wiegmann, Hucles lead Breakers to win

BOSTON (AP) -- Bettina Wiegmann and Angela Hucles each scored and had an assist as the Boston Breakers beat the New York Power 4-1 Sunday.

The Breakers (5-8-7) took the lead on Dagny Mellgren's goal in the fifth minute. Mellgren, third in the WUSA with 11 goals, has scored five against New York this season.

Hucles made it 2-0 in the 34th minute on assists from Maren Meinert and Kristine Lilly. Meinert picked up two assists to take the league lead with 14, and Lilly extended her points streak to nine games.

New York (3-15-1) cut the lead to 2-1 when Tammy Pearman scored in the 51st minute, beating Karina LeBlanc on a breakaway.

Wiegmann scored in the 60th minute, and Allison Kemp scored her second goal in as many games to make it 4-1 in the 80th minute.

Even though the Breakers are out of playoff contention, they remained unbeaten at home at 4-0-5. Their season finale against is San Jose next Saturday.

New York has lost 11 of its last 12 games, giving up 40 goals over that stretch. The Breakers swept the season series with New York after losing three times to the Power in 2001.
