FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) -- New England tied the MetroStars 1-1 Sunday
in the second game of the aggregate-goal series and advanced to the
MLS Eastern Conference championship.
New England, which beat the MetroStars 2-0 in the series opener,
had a 3-1 advantage in goals in the two-game series.
The Revolution, unbeaten in nine matches (7-0-2), will face the
Chicago Fire on Friday in a single-game semifinal match. The Fire
eliminated D.C. United on Sunday.
Patrick Noonan scored his second goal of the playoffs in the
21st minute for New England, converting a pass from Dario Fabbro
with an 18-yard shot into the far right corner.
The MetroStars tied the match in injury time at the end of the
first half on a penalty kick by Amado Guevara. The MetroStars were
awarded the chance after New England defender Carlos Laamosa took
down the Mike Magee in the penalty box area.
The MetroStars, winless in their last six matches (0-4-2).
