Another record-breaking round of UEFA Champions League group stage action, as Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappe all found the net in PSG's comeback win over Maccabi Haifa. Erling Haaland shone with a late winner for Manchester City against former club Borussia Dortmund, while Chelsea's first game under Graham Potter ended in a disappointing draw. Juventus's terrible form continued as they were defeated by Benfica at home, while AC Milan and Napoli notched up comfortable wins. Carlo Ancelotti celebrated a milestone as Real Madrid scored late to defeat RB Leipzig.

Earlier, Liverpool needed Joel Matip's 89th minute winner to defeat Ajax, while Tottenham suffered late heartbreak as well. Bayern Munich ensured it was an unhappy return for Robert Lewandowski as they beat Barcelona, while Atletico Madrid suffered late in their loss to Bayer Leverkusen.

By The Numbers has the best stats from across the competition:

Messi is the first player to score in 18 UEFA Champions League seasons. Curiously enough, Karim Benzema could join him this season in doing so. This was Messi's 126th UCL goal, and 6th with PSG in the competition.

All of Messi's goals with PSG this season have come away from home. In fact, Messi has scored 2 goals in Israel this season and none in Paris (the Trophée des Champions was held in Tel Aviv).

Lionel Messi also went past Cristiano Ronaldo for the most UCL goals scored in the 1st half by any player, with this being his 62nd one.

Messi, Neymar and Mbappe all scored in a single game for the second time this season. They had managed this feat only once all of last season.

PSG have now scored in 40 consecutive group stage UCL games, tying Real Madrid's record set between 2008 and 2015.

Mbappe is now tied with Edinson Cavani at the top of PSG's all-time UCL scoring charts, with his 30th goal for the club in the competition.

Carlo Ancelotti is only the second ever coach to win 100 UCL games, with Sir Alex Ferguson being the first. He's only three wins shy of surpassing the Scotsman, who finished with 102 wins in his UCL career.

Real Madrid extended their UCL unbeaten streak against German clubs to 13 games - the Spanish giants' longest ever such streak.

Real Madrid opened a season with 8 straight wins in all competitions for the first time since 1968-69, when they won their first eleven games. The club have become second half specialists, having outscored opponents 16-0 in the last 45 this season.

Jude Bellingham is the first Englishman to score a Champions League goal on the road against an English team for a non-English club. The 18-year-old also surpassed Wayne Rooney, Theo Walcott, Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho for the most UCL goals by an English teenager, notching up his fourth.

Messi and Kevin de Bruyne each grabbed an assist tonight - they are tied for the most assists in all of 2022 in all competitions, with 18, followed by Ousmane Dembele on 15

For the first time ever, Juventus have lost each of their first 2 matches of a European Cup or Champions League campaign.

Chelsea finish with 1 point through their first 2 matchdays this UCL season; it's their fewest through their first 2 matchdays in a single UCL season since 1999-00 (1 point).

Bayern are unbeaten in their last 30 UCL group stage matches, having won 27 (!) of those games. Their only draws have come against Atletico Madrid and Ajax (twice).

Bayern remain the only side Barcelona have never defeated away from home in their history (at least three games).

Mohammed Salah is now Liverpool's all-time leading UCL goalscorer at Anfield, going past Steven Gerrard. The Egyptian has 36 goals in Europe for Liverpool, just 5 short of Gerrard's club record of 41.

Paulinho's 90th minute goal was Sporting CP's latest game winner in their UEFA Champions League history. Eclipsed moments later as Arthur Gomes' 93rd minute goal was the club's latest goal in the UEFA Champions League.
