Can Liverpool beat Atletico? Bet on goals in Sancho vs. Mbappe

We were a disallowed Willy Boly header away from landing a 5/1 treble (and overall profit) over the weekend as VAR struck again. The Champions League resumes again this week and it will be interesting to see if Liverpool can transfer their domestic dominance back to the European stage.

The Banker

Liverpool have all but sewn up a first domestic title for 30 years but will now refocus on Europe and look to pick up a positive result at the Wanda Metropolitano when they face Atletico Madrid on Tuesday. Jurgen Klopp's side are a 6/5 shout with bet365 and that will tempt plenty given the fact Los Rojiblancos have won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions.

The form lines of the two teams going in could not be more contrasting. Liverpool are the European champions and 25 points clear of Premier League rivals Manchester City; Atletico Madrid are out of La Liga's title race and have also been dumped out of the Copa del Rey in recent weeks.

However, the reason Liverpool are not odds on here is that Atleti have some real pedigree in this tournament, having reached two Champions League and three Europa League finals in the last decade. Atletico's success in Europe is down to hard work and organisation. They don't have the financial muscle of city neighbours Real Madrid, but in Diego Simeone they have a boss who believes in hard graft and defensive discipline.

As Klopp himself said after Saturday's 1-0 win over Norwich: "If somebody knows how to play for a result it's Atletico and Mr Simeone, whom I respect a lot." It should be an emotional return for Liverpool under the lights at the Wanda Metropolitano, the scene of their sixth Champions League triumph in the summer, and we fancy them to claim a crucial first leg advantage by winning on Spanish shores once again.

Selection: £5 on Liverpool to win at 6/5 with bet365.

The Tasty Treble

Tottenham are tentative 11/8 favourites to beat RB Leipzig on Wednesday night but the German side warmed up for their Champions League round of 16 tie in north London with a 3-0 win over Werder Bremen to temporarily regain top spot in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Spurs are in good form but the wealth of attacking talent at Julian Nagelsmann's disposal is pretty scary and we fancy Die Roten Bullen to claim victory on Wednesday. It remains to be seen whether Spurs' notoriously erratic defensive line can cope with Timo Werner and Patrik Schick, while Leipzig look a big price at 19/10 all things considered.

Add in Liverpool at 6/5 to continue their fantastic recent form by winning in Madrid and Arsenal at 6/5 to see off Olympiakos in the Europa League on Thursday. The Gunners were terrific in dismantling Newcastle 4-0 on Sunday and have lost just once since Mikel Arteta took charge in December. The European treble pays just over 13/1 with bet365.

Selection: £3 on the treble at 13.03/1 with bet365.

The Wildcard Tip

Borussia Dortmund against PSG is being billed as Jadon Sancho vs. Kylian Mbappe, and it will be intriguing to see how the 'Next Gen' stars of the European game match up against each other on Tuesday night. The bookmakers have PSG down as favourites to win in Germany, but Thomas Tuchel's men could easily come unstuck here.

Dortmund are scoring goals for fun, having struck an incredible 63 league goals so far, the joint-highest of any Bundesliga club ever at this stage of a season. You can get 100/30 for them to win a game where both teams find the net and, given they both teams like to play on the front foot, this looks worth a punt in Germany.

Selection: £3 on Borussia Dortmund to win and both teams to score at 100/30 with bet365.
