Unless you have been living under a rock, by now you've surely learned of Germany manager Joachim Low's surprising and controversial decision to leave standout youngster Leroy Sane off of Germany's World Cup squad.
The 22-year-old winger seemed like a lock to make the team for the defending champions, especially after a double-winning season with Man City in which he contributed 14 goals and 19 assists. Ultimately, though, Low did not see it the same way and left out the Man City flyer in favour of Bayer Leverkusen's Julian Brandt.
While pundits and fans alike expressed their utter shock at Sane's snub, one player who can relate better than anyone, Landon Donovan, offered Sane an alternative to Russia 2018.
Hey @LeroySane19 -want to go grab a few 🍻 and chat?— Landon Donovan (@landondonovan) June 4, 2018
For those of you who might not remember, Donovan, then the United States' all-time leading scorer, was shockingly left off the plane for the World Cup in South Africa four years ago by Low's former boss Jurgen Klinsmann. Sane must be gutted, as was Donovan in 2014, but at least the former USMNT star was able to have some fun at his own expense.
No word on whether Sane will accept Donovan's offer but a few German beers sounds like a good consolation plan to us.
