Sampdoria sack Delio Rossi

Serie A club Sampdoria have sacked manager Delio Rossi as the club looks to battle their way out of the relegation zone.

Sampdoria were sucked into the drop zone after they extended their current losing streak to three consecutive games with a 2-1 loss to Fiorentina,

And with nearly a third of the season already played, club officials decided it was time to act.

“Sampdoria announces that it has relieved Delio Rossi and his staff of their duties,” a club statement read on Monday night.

“The company would like to thank everyone for their commitment and professionalism over these past months and wish you the best of luck.

“The management of the first team will be temporarily entrusted to Francesco Pedone.”

Rossi hinted after the Fiorentina defeat that ‘trust’ between himself and the club was becoming an issue.

“If there is a time where you don't feel that the trust is there, you shouldn't wait to see how things unfold,” he said.

“I am a man of the world and I think that if the confidence is there, then it's normal that one continues, but if it isn't, then it is better to end the rapport regardless of the results.”
