Inter Milan put seven past Atalanta, Roma go second with Palermo win

Inter Milan moved up to fourth in Serie A following a 7-1 thrashing of Atalanta, with both Mauro Icardi and Ever Banega scoring hat tricks.

Icardi opened the scoring in the 17th minute, pouncing to convert a rebound, and within nine minutes he had completed his hat trick -- a strike from the penalty spot was followed by a header from a corner.

Banega then made it four in the 31st minute before adding his second three minutes later with another close-range finish.

Remo Freuler pulled one back for the visitors before the break, but Roberto Gagliardini made it six for Inter with a goal against his former club after the restart, with Banega completing his hat trick from a free kick on 67 minutes.

Roma climbed above Napoli into second place with a 3-0 win at Palermo.

Stephan El Shaarawy, Edin Dzeko and Bruno Peres were on target for the visitors.

Lorenzo Insigne scored a brace as Napoli beat Crotone 3-0.

Insigne put the hosts one up in the 32nd minute, converting a penalty after being brought down in the box.

Dries Mertens struck Napoli's second from the spot in the 66th minute after Marek Hamsik had been fouled, with Insigne rounding off the scoring four minutes later, latching onto Jorginho's ball before slotting home.

Nikola Kalinic scored deep into injury time to secure a 1-0 win for Fiorentina against Cagliari.

With the game seemingly set to end goalless, up popped Kalinic in the 92nd minute to get on the end of Cristian Tello's cross and head home from six yards out.

Udinese inflicted more misery on bottom-placed Pescara with a 3-1 victory.

Duvan Zapata gave Udinese a half-time lead and Jakub Jankto and Cyril Thereau netted within 10 minutes of the restart, rendering Sulley Muntari's strike for Pescara seven minutes from time mere consolation.

Mattia Destro scored the only goal of the game as Bologna defeated Sassuolo 1-0.

Destro found the back of the net in the 58th minute, arriving unmarked to tap in from close range after Blerim Dzemaili had rolled the ball into his path.

Chievo Verona swept aside Empoli with ease, running out 4-0 winners.

Roberto Inglese and Sergio Pellissier scored in the first half, with Valter Birsa and Bostjan Cesar on target in the second.
