David Beckham's MLS expansion franchise Inter Miami announced on Thursday that Kurt Schmid will join the club as its technical director.
Schmid is the son of former LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders head coach Sigi, who died on Tuesday, Dec. 25, and worked alongside his father as a scout, an assistant and, most recently, as director of player personnel with the Galaxy.
"We are extremely happy to welcome Kurt to the Inter Miami family," said sporting director Paul McDonough. "His deep roots in the national soccer landscape, paired with his vast global scouting experience will be an invaluable component for our club and our technical staff."
Kurt Schmid began his career in MLS with the Sounders in 2009 and was with the team through a successful run that saw them win four U.S. Open Cups and the 2014 Supporters' Shield before being named head scout.
The younger Schmid was promoted to director of player personnel after the Sounders won MLS Cup in 2016.
A graduate of UCLA, where he won the 2002 NCAA Championship, Kurt joined the Galaxy, where his father last coached, in 2017 as director of player personnel and scouting.
The statement said that Schmid will "work directly with McDonough on all soccer-related aspects of the first team and the academy, with a particular focus on leading scouting efforts to identify local and international talent for the club."
