Jose Angel Pozo poised for Manchester City debut in Capital One Cup

MANCHESTER -- Teenage forward Jose Angel Pozo is likely to make his Manchester City debut against Sheffield Wednesday as the Capital One Cup winners find themselves suddenly short of strikers.

Edin Dzeko is the only senior centre-forward available to manager Manuel Pellegrini for Wednesday's game after Sergio Aguero, who has a knee problem, joined Stevan Jovetic on the injured list.

And while Pellegrini could pick from four strikers last season, Alvaro Negredo joined Valencia at the end of the transfer window.

Now 18-year-old Spaniard Pozo, who joined City from Real Madrid in 2012, could be set for his bow against the in-form Championship clubs.

"Pozo is the in squad list," said Pellegrini in a news conference. "We will see if he will play."

Pozo scored on his last outing for City's Elite Development Side, in a 4-1 win against their Bayern Munich counterparts in the Champions League.

Pellegrini said Aguero's absence is precautionary but rejected suggestions he is short of strikers.

"I hope that Kun is just a kick and it wasn't good for him to take a risk to play but he will play against Hull on Saturday without any problems," he added. "Jovetic will need two or three more days and with those two players at 100 percent and Dzeko too, we won't have any problems."

City will be without six players with David Silva, Samir Nasri and Fernando also injured and Pablo Zabaleta serving a one-match suspension.

And Pellegrini will give some of his fringe players a chance to impress as he hinted that goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who has not featured since the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal, will play his first home game.

Defenders Matija Nastasic and Dedryck Boyata, who have not played since then, should also feature, while winger Scott Sinclair may do.

"We will see who will start," Pellegrini said. "Willy Caballero will have one or two games in a row because he's a keeper and needs to play. Matija Nastasic and also Boyata, we will see when they have the opportunity to do it."

Pellegrini praised his biggest summer signing, Eliaquim Mangala, for his fine performance on his belated debut in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Chelsea.

The 32 million-pound centre-back signed from Porto in August but did not feature until this weekend but Pellegrini said: "First of all I think it was very important for Mangala to work for a month with us before he started playing.

"It was more important for him to delay it and know how to do it. I was very happy with the way he played on Sunday because he had a feeling of power, he's a very strong defender and he's a player with a lot of experience.

"He's not a young player playing for the first time but it's always difficult to do it for the first time in the Premier League. For him it was a very good experience and he will continue to be part of our squad."
