Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels has urged Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho to give more game time to ex-Borussia Dortmund teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan at Old Trafford.
The pair played together at Dortmund but have since moved to their respective clubs. While Hummels has been a regular starter for Bayern, his ex-teammate has found it tough to get going at United, with only two starts in the Premier League since September.
Mkhitaryan's strong showing in last week's 4-1 EFL Cup win over West Ham United saw Mourinho give him a rare start at the weekend in United's 1-1 draw against Everton, something Hummels feels must happen more regularly to get the best out of the Armenian midfielder.
"If you let him play, you will see how good he is. I am 100 percent sure of this," Hummels told the Daily Mail.
"He is one of the best I have played with. But if you can't play, you can't shine. It's easy! It's really easy!
"I saw part of the game against Feyenoord. I saw part of the game against West Ham. There he was -- always good, as he is always when he is on the pitch.
"He played at that level all of last year [with Dortmund]."
