Giovani dos Santos on new Mexico boss Tuca Ferretti: 'He will help alot'

Mexican midfielder Giovani dos Santos has reacted positively to the news of Ricardo "Tuca" Ferretti being named interim coach of the national team, saying "he will help alot."

The current U.A.N.L. Tigres boss will take over El Tri' on an interim basis for up to four games, Mexican Football Federation president Decio de Maria revealed on Thursday, and Dos Santos believes it will be a beneficial move for the national set-up.

"He's a great coach, with a great character and he will help a lot," Dos Santos said. "I wish him the best of luck."

The changes at the Mexican national team level since Dos Santos first appeared with the team in 2007 are numerous. Including Hugo Sanchez, the coach who first capped him for the senior team, 10 different manager have taken charge of El Tri. And Ferretti will be No. 11.

"These are changes that we needed," said Dos Santos. "We needed a coach and this is who the federation has chosen."

The LA Galaxy playmaker appeared to know Ferretti only by reputation.

"I don't know him," Dos Santos said. "But everyone speaks well of him and that he's a great coach He's going to do well with the national team."

The midfielder was hesitant to answer why Ferretti agreed to a coaching stint of only a few matches.

"That question is for him," the No. 10. "I'm not going to answer for him."

Given the new boss' situation, there's a chance Ferretti may help gain Mexico a Confederations Cup spot yet not coach El Tri in that tournament.

"Those are the decisions that are made and we have to respect that," Dos Santos said. "He's a good coach and we'll do well."

Dos Santos also agreed that no matter who was in charge on Mexico's national team, the battle for roster spots won't change.

"It's always competitive, and every year it gets more competitive," the former Villarreal and Barcelona man said.

While Dos Santos was optimistic about the coaching changes for Mexico, he also expressed confidence in his current level of performance for his new club.

"I feel good," he said. "I'm getting to know my teammates, and everything is going well."

The Galaxy have won every match since Dos Santos joined the team and he has scored or recorded an assist in each game.

"We're motivated, we're doing well," Dos Santos explained. "The team has treated me well, and the fans have been great."
