Wizards notch 16th shutout of season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Miklos Molnar scored after 10 minutes and Tony Meola recorded his 15th shutout as the Kansas City Wizards beat the Tampa Bay Mutiny 1-0 Saturday night in a game between division leaders.

Molnar, who has been nursing a sore left knee, scored off assists from Matt McKeon and Chris Brown.

Meola only had to stop one shot on goal, taken by league-leading scorer Mamadou Diallo. Kansas City leads the MLS with 16 shutouts and has allowed just 27 goals.

Diallo was coming off a three-goal performance in the Mutiny's 4-3 victory over Columbus on Wednesday. He has 26 goals, one shy of the 1997 league record set by Roy Lassiter.

Tampa Bay leads the MLS with 60 goals.

The Wizards (15-7-8), atop the Western Division, have a league-best 53 points with two games remaining. Tampa Bay (16-12-3) leads the Central.

The temperature was 99 degrees at kickoff.
