New York City FC will host the Houston Dynamo in East Hartford, Connecticut, on Sept. 23 because of a scheduling conflict.
NYCFC's regular home of Yankee Stadium will be needed to prepare for its primary tenants' next baseball game, which was rescheduled after a rainout in May. The Yankees will now return home to play on Monday, rather than Tuesday.
The first-ever MLS game in Connecticut will take place at Rentschler Field at the previously scheduled time of 3 p.m. on the previous Saturday.
"We have worked very closely with Houston and MLS to find an alternative venue prioritizing our supporters and sporting department," NYCFC president Jon Patricof said in a statement. "While we understand this will be an inconvenience for some, we are confident we have put together an excellent variety of ticketing and transportation options for our fans."
NYCFC said ticket-holders unable to attend can either exchange them for another game at Yankee Stadium or get a refund.
Rentschler Field is the home of UConn football and also hosted multiple U.S. national team games, most recently the friendly win over Ghana in July.
"Hartford is a great soccer city which has hosted many important international games -- I played there in a couple of games for the national team many years ago - and it was always a wonderful place to play with a fantastic atmosphere and environment," said NYCFC sporting director Claudio Reyna.
"We're looking forward to playing there and having our fans come out and support the team in Hartford."
