Montrose and Peterhead have it all to play for in the second leg after a 1-1 draw in their play-off clash at Links Park.
The League One relegation-threatened visitors took an early lead after just 10 minutes as a poor clearance fell to Ryan Strachan and he made no mistake as he fired a 35-yard thunderbolt into the top corner.
But their lead lasted just four minutes as the League Two Gable Endies struck back when Liam Callaghan set up Chris Templeman and he slotted home from the centre of the penalty area moments after hitting the crossbar.
Montrose striker Gary Fraser came close to handing his side the lead with a couple of second-half attempts, while the away side enjoyed the majority of possession but could not put any of their chances away as they head into Saturday's return leg at Balmoor level.
