The result sees Spurs temporarily leapfrog north London rivals Arsenal into fifth place in the league table.

Mourinho was appointed the club's head coach on Wednesday, hours on from Spurs announcing Mauricio Pochettino's sacking as manager.

Pochettino won his first game as Spurs manager away at West Ham and Mourinho emulated his predecessor.

The Portuguese made three changes from the side that drew 1-1 to Sheffield United in Pochettino's last game in charge of the club.

Moura, Harry Winks and Toby Alderweireld came back into the starting lineup with Moussa Sissoko and Christian Eriksen on the bench.

Kane thought he scored the opening goal within the first minutes but the goal was rightly disallowed for offside.

Spurs were comfortable throughout the first half and took the lead after 36 minutes when Son scored the first goal of the Mourinho era.

Dele Alli found himself in space and played a through ball to the South Korea international who notched his sixth goal in six games in all competitions.

Spurs doubled their lead two minutes before the break as Alli produced a stunning flick on the floor to set up Son on the left hand side, who crossed for Moura to score.

The visitors sealed the victory three minutes into the second half when Kane scored with a header from a Serge Aurier cross.

Spurs have dropped 12 points from winning positions this season and there were nerves when Michail Antonio got a goal back with 15 minutes to go.

Angelo Ogbonna scored in the last minute for West Ham but Spurs held on for the win.
