Liverpool didn't want Memphis Depay - Brendan Rodgers

LIVERPOOL -- Brendan Rodgers insists that he was never interested in signing Memphis Depay.

The Netherlands international is set to join Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven at the end of the season after the two clubs agreed a fee.

PSV director Marcel Brands said last week that Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain were interested in Depay, and sources have told ESPN FC that the player only joined United after boss Louis van Gaal personally intervened.

However, Rodgers has dismissed the suggestion that he lost out to United for the 21-year-old.

The Liverpool boss told journalists at a news conference on Friday: "Unfortunately for you guys, it wasn't one we were ever interested in. He's obviously a talented young player, but we already have four wingers at the club.

"We've got young Raheem Sterling and Jordon Ibe, Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic, so we'll have other priorities we're looking at for the summer.

"As you can tell from the number of players we have in those positions, a wide player -- particularly on the left side, where we've got Raheem -- we're quite well stocked with those players."
