Christian Benteke to wear Liverpool No. 9 shirt as Rickie Lambert nears exit

Christian Benteke is set to take the Liverpool No. 9 shirt from Rickie Lambert after the England striker completed his move to West Bromwich Albion.

Sources told ESPN FC that Benteke will take on Lambert's squad number.

Benteke will follow in the wake of a series of great Liverpool strikers including Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler and Fernando Torres to have worn the No. 9 shirt.

The Belgium international completed a £32.5 million move to Anfield from Aston Villa on July 22, though the club did not reveal the 24-year-old's squad number at the time as they were waiting to see if Lambert would agree to move on and vacate his shirt.

Benteke wore the No. 20 shirt at Aston Villa, but that has been taken at Liverpool by Adam Lallana.
