Juventus have opened talks to sign midfielder Axel Witsel from Zenit St Petersburg next month, director Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed.
The Serie A club previously approached Zenit about a move for Witsel last year, though an agreement was not found at the time.
But with the 27-year-old entering the final six months of his contract, Moratta told Radio Uno that the Russian club are now open to a potential move.
"Witsel is an opportunity," Marotta said. "His contract is ending in June, and we have been in touch with Zenit to see if we can buy him in January."
The offer for the Belgium international is rumoured to be around €6 million.
Witsel is not Marotta's only target, however, with the Bianconeri interested in a several young players.
"We are working on [Rodrigo] Bentancur, for example," Marotta explained. "He is doing really well with Boca Juniors and we have first refusal, so I think he will join us -- not in January, but next season."
