Tottenham to open talks with Reo Griffiths on first pro contract - sources

Tottenham Hotspur are set to open talks with Reo Griffiths this week on a first professional contract in a bid to ward off interest from other clubs, sources have told ESPN FC.

Griffiths, 17, has scored 34 goals in domestic competitions for Spurs this season, including four in the under-18s' 9-0 victory over Arsenal last week.

He is being tracked by a number of top clubs across Europe because of his scoring -- including RB Leipzig, whose head of recruitment, Paul Mitchell, formerly held that role at Tottenham.

Spurs have high hopes for Griffiths in the future and would like to tie him to a professional contract rather than risk losing him for a minimal development compensation fee.
