Pellegrini lauds Toure's goal run

Manuel Pellegrini believes practice has made Yaya Toure's free kicks perfect after the Ivorian kept up his remarkable scoring run in Manchester City's 5-0 Capital One Cup win over Wigan.

The midfielder has scored five times already this season, including a goal in each of their four home games. And he has struck from free kicks against Newcastle, Hull and now Wigan, which manager Pellegrini said is the product of his work when he stays behind after training.

Pellegrini said: "We are always practising. Yaya stays normally, kicking the ball after we finish the daily work. He is really in a good moment also. It is not normal, someone always scoring free kicks.

"He is an excellent player but he is adding goals from free kicks and last Sunday he scores again [against Manchester United], and for him it is very important to score goals."

City have scored 12 goals in three games, beating Viktoria Plzen 3-0 and Manchester United 4-1 before defeating Wigan and Pellegrini was pleased a weakened team proved so prolific.

"I spoke with the players, telling them we must always try to play the same way," he added. "We can change names but for me it was very important to see the same team we saw last Sunday, the same philosophy of football and the same high performance. Scoring 12 goals in a week is also very important."
