Bayern Munich's commanding win a 'signal' of title run, says Thomas Muller

Thomas Muller believes Bayern Munich are well on their way towards a record-breaking fourth straight Bundesliga title after thrashing Borussia Dortmund 5-1 on Sunday.

After beating Wolfsburg, the side many had predicted would be Bayern's biggest title rivals this season, 5-1 last month, another convincing victory against an apparent contender is a sign that the record German champions are again in a league of their own, according to Muller.

"These were big points of course," Muller said on his club's website. "We're now seven points clear, and if you consider also the way in which we won today, this is a signal."

Nevertheless, Muller did not want to get ahead of himself and accept that Bayern are not going to loosen their grip on the title they have won in dominant fashion in each of the past three seasons.

Despite equalling their own league record of eight wins in a row at the start of a season, the Germany international says there is still a long way to go this season.

"We've got to ensure we keep things up when we return from the international break," the 26-year-old added.

"Nobody gifts you anything. But the situation is a good one, and the attitude of our players is second to none. We are all hungry."

Indeed, despite winning so many trophies in recent years, Bayern do not seem to be sated.

"We're very happy because we've beaten one of the best sides in Europe," said coach Pep Guardiola, who is looking for a hat trick of Bundesliga titles.

"I want to congratulate my players, not only for this game but also for the recent months. We've done a good job."
