United States coach Bruce Arena has called up Philadelphia Union midfielder Chris Pontius for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup as an injury replacement for Gent midfielder Kenny Saief.
Pontius, 30, has recorded six assists in 17 appearances for the Union this season and takes the place of Saief after he was ruled out with a groin injury.
Pontius was part of the 40-man preliminary roster announced on June 3. Teams at the Gold Cup are allowed to replace an injured player up to 24 hours prior to its first match.
