BRUSSELS, Belgium -- Kim Clijsters had surgery to remove a
cyst from her left wrist and is expected to be sidelined for three
months, forcing her to miss the U.S. Open.
She underwent the one-hour operation Saturday, according to a
statement on Clijsters' official Web site.
The No. 2-ranked player will have to wear a plaster cast up to
her elbow for six weeks.
Clijsters sat out the French Open and has already withdrawn from
Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. She hopes to make her return Sept. 27
at the Hasselt tournament in Belgium, but it is unclear whether she
will make it to the season-ending Masters event, the statement
