Mark Jackson found out the hard way that sometimes NBA success isn't all about wins and losses. Under Jackson's guidance, the Warriors recorded back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time in 22 years, but the coach reportedly clashed with assistants and ownership and wound up unemployed. And with the May 14 hiring of rookie coach Steve Kerr an unpopular choice with fans, the team's coaching rank dropped a whopping 65 spots.
Kerr, a California native, now finds himself in an unenviable position. The pressure is on the former Bulls point guard and Suns GM to hit the ground running, especially since the team's recent success has sparked a reported 25 percent hike in season-ticket prices and a 20 percent rise in average cost per season, sending the affordability rank down 31 spots.
Still, the Warriors fill seats (sixth in the NBA in attendance) and boast likable, fan-friendly players (seventh in the NBA) like Harrison Barnes and Stephen Curry. Barnes announced on his Facebook page that he obtained a P.O. box and will sign items sent to it, while Curry was awarded the NBA's community service award. Fan relations remain strong (seventh in the NBA) thanks to fan-featured TV commercials under the unifying mantra "WeAreWarriors" and stunts like Twitter Takeover Night, which handed the keys to the team's Twitter account, for one night each, to a lucky fan, Oakland right fielder Josh Reddick and MC Hammer.
