STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Chile's Marcelos Rios advanced to the semifinals of the Stockholm Open by defeating Swedish qualifier Andreas Vinciguerra 6-3, 7-6 (3) Friday.

Rios, the highest seed left in the tournament at No. 6, was supported by scores of singing, flag-waving Chileans among the sellout crowd at Royal Tennis Hall.

``It's a great atmosphere with so many Chileans in the crowd.''

The 26-year-old Rios, a former world No. 1, is trying to reach his first final this year. He's won at least one title every year since 1995.

In Saturday's semifinals, Rios will play Morocco's Hicham Arazi, who prevented an all-Chilean semi by beating Nicolas Massu 7-5, 6-1.

Vinciguerra led early in the tiebreak, but Rios moved to match point when Vinciguerra's backhand went long. Vinciguerra's next return also sailed long, giving Rios the match.

Earlier, Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan beat Dutchman Raemon Sluiter 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to set up a semifinal match against Spain's Tommy Robredo. Sluiter had upset top-ranked Lleyton Hewitt in the second round Wednesday.
