DOHA, Qatar -- Seventh-seeded Conchita Martinez of Spain beat Lucie Ahl of Britain 6-0, 6-2 Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the $170,000 Qatar Open.

Martinez, the 1994 Wimbledon champion, will face Lina Krasnoroutskaya of Russia in Friday's quarterfinals. Krasnoroutskaya upset top-seeded Monica Seles in the first round.

Fifth-seeded Elena Likhovtseva of Russia defeated Iroda Tulyaganova of Uzbekistan 6-1, 6-4.

In other second-round matches, Nicole Pratt of Australia downed Angelique Widjaja of Indonesia 4-6, 6-4, 6-1,and Patricia Wartusch of Austria rallied past Maria Vento-Kabchi of Venezuela 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.
