COSTA DO SAUIPE, Brazil -- Top-seeded Rainer Schuettler beat Ramon Delgado 6-1, 6-3 Friday in the Brasil Open quarterfinals.

Schuettler will play defending champion Gustavo Kuerten, who beat fellow Brazilian Ricardo Mello 6-2, 6-2, for his eighth straight win at Costa do Sauipe.

Second-seeded Sjeng Schalken beat Vince Spadea of the United States 7-6 (0), 6-2 to reach the semifinals, where he will play Gaston Etlis, who upset eighth-seeded Kenneth Carlsen 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-3.
