Rafael Nadal pulls out of Wimbledon tuneup, citing wrist injury

LONDON -- Rafael Nadal has pulled out of the Queen's Club grass-court tournament that serves as a tuneup for Wimbledon, citing the left wrist injury that cut his French Open short.

Nadal, a 14-time Grand Slam champion, withdrew from Queen's Club on Wednesday.

He won that event in 2008, when he also went on to win his first of two titles at the All England Club.

The left-handed Spaniard suddenly announced last week in Paris that he could not continue to play at Roland Garros, where he has won a record nine trophies.

He withdrew the day before his third-round match, saying that he won in the second round after receiving a painkilling injection but was in too much pain to continue playing.
