Withdrew from Toray Pan Pacific in February and from the first round of Fed Cup in April due to a lower back injury, later diagnosed as a herniated disc. She underwent surgery in early October.

Qualified for the season-ending Chase Championships as one of the world's best 16 players for the fourth consecutive years.
Fastest server of the year on the Tour each year from 1990-97. Broke her personal record with a 123 mph serve at Wimbledon.
As the top seed, won the Quebec City title, her first of the year and seventh of her career.

Qualified for the season-ending Chase Championships as one of the world's best 16 players four consecutive years. Unseeded, she upset No. 7 Magdalena Maleeva in first round and second seed Conchita Martinez in the quarterfinals for career-best win.
Reached first-ever Grand Slam quarterfinal at Wimbledon -- she was the first Dutch woman to reach Wimbledon quarters since Bette Stove in 1977. Repeated feat at U.S. Open, becoming the first Dutch woman to reach the quarterfinals since 1977.
In 1995, won two Tour titles for first time in career -- at Oklahoma City and Quebec City.
1994
At Lipton, ranked No. 32, upset two-time defending champion Arantxa Sanchez Vicario 1-6, 7-6(8-6), 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
