Her ranking returned to the world's Top 15 for the first time in two years and she qualified for the season-ending Chase Championships in singles as one of the year's top 16 players for the first time in three years. Won the Chase Championships doubles title for the third time.
Unseeded at Wimbledon, defeated fourth seed Steffi Graf for the first time in 18 tries and sixth seed Monica Seles en route to her first semifinal there.

In Strasbourg, earned best win of the year, defeating fifth-ranked Lindsay Davenport to reach the quarterfinals.
Stunned 10th-ranked Conchita Martinez 6-1, 6-0 in the first round of 1997 Filderstadt, then stretched world No. 1 Martina Hingis to three sets before falling in the second round.
Won 20th Grand Slam title at 1997 Wimbledon doubles, moving into 14th place on the all-time total Grand Slam titles list.
1995
Runner-up at Indian Wells event -- defeated No. 1-ranked Arantxa Sanchez Vicario in semifinals for first victory over a current No. 1 player. Her quarterfinal victory over Elena Likhovtseva was career match win No. 300.
1988
Reached the finals at the French Open, upsetting second-ranked Martina Navratilova in the fourth round.
