UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor was "absolutely devastated" on hearing of Sunday's mass shooting in Las Vegas.

McGregor, who had prepared for his TKO superfight defeat to Floyd Mayweather in Vegas, made the comments on social media. UFC president Dana White said Monday that the organisation will donate $1 million to the families of the victims of the attack.

"Absolutely devastated upon hearing the news in Las Vegas," said McGregor, who added it was "a city so close to my heart."

American sports teams and athletes expressed their grief following the shooting, while former British women's tennis No. 1 Laura Robson assured fans she was OK after attending an open-air concert nearby.
