On Monday, the WNBA and Adidas announced new team uniform colors and commemorative items to pay tribute to the league's 20th season, which tips off May 14. The newly designed uniforms will introduce a fresh palette of shades for 10 teams -- replacing the white home and road uniforms currently worn by most teams.
"Throughout the design process, there were numerous color versions sent back and forth between the league and the teams," WNBA president Lisa Borders said. "When making updates to uniforms, we work closely with the teams who share player input for consideration."
The uniforms will be designed in primary and secondary team colors, but team uniform silhouettes will not change. Of the 12 teams, the Los Angeles Sparks and San Antonio Stars will keep the same color designs.
The 12 teams will have a special 20th-season logo positioned on the back neckline of their jerseys. Borders said she is excited that the league is recognizing the WNBA's inaugural teams (the New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury and Los Angeles Sparks) with season patches on the front left chest portion of their jerseys.
In addition, Spalding has developed a special game ball imprinted with the 20th-season logo. Also, fans will have the opportunity to purchase WNBA 20th-season apparel, including T-shirts and headwear.
