Texas starts strong, romps past Delaware State

AUSTIN, Texas -- Ashleigh Fontenette scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half to lead Texas (No. 25 ESPN/USA Today, No. 22 AP) past Delaware State 89-35 on Wednesday.

Texas (10-2) opened with an 18-4 run that included 12 straight points and won its fifth straight heading into next Wednesday's Big 12 opener against Kansas. Chassidy Fussell, Yvonne Anderson and Anne Marie Hartung each added 12 points for the Longhorns.

Tasia Bristow scored nine points and Alexis Thornton added eight for Delaware State (3-11), which has lost 11 of 12.

Texas, ranked third in the country in blocked shots, stuffed Delaware State 11 times and turned 35 turnovers by the Lady Hornets into 34 points. The Longhorns also won the rebound battle 52-34 in their final non-conference matchup.
