FORT WORTH, Texas -- Courtney Walker and No. 5 Texas A&M used their defense to overcome a sloppy game on the offensive side for the Aggies.
Walker scored 21 points, and Texas A&M held TCU to 33 percent shooting in an 82-71 victory on Sunday.
Courtney Williams had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Aggies (9-0), who led 31-21 at the break. Jordan Jones added 13 points and six assists.
"We knew this was a trap game," Texas A&M coach Gary Blair said. "I have always had trouble playing anywhere at TCU because they always come to play and do a great job. They never give up, and they hung in there."
The Aggies had a 70-53 lead after Walker made a jumper with 3:47 to go. But TCU (4-3) responded with a 10-2 run to get within nine.
Curtyce Knox then hit two free throws with 1:46 remaining to get Texas A&M back on track.
Zahna Medley scored 19 points for the Horned Frogs, and Donielle Breaux had 12 points and seven rebounds. Chelsea Prince added 10 points, seven boards and six steals.
TCU was 6 for 32 from the field in the first half. It was 24 for 72 for the game, and was outrebounded 50-42 by the Aggies.
"Shooting 18 percent in the first half and being down 10 at the half is a testament of how great this team can be," TCU coach Raegan Pebley said. "Texas A&M is an excellent team, and I want to keep imploring upon our team that we can and will compete at this level."
Texas A&M scored the first 10 points of the game. It started the second half with a 7-0 run to open a 38-21 lead.
The Aggies were hurt by 23 turnovers.
"A lot of our turnovers were from being inefficient in the fast break," Walker said. "We were running a whole lot and playing a lot of rec ball in the first half. We slowed it down and our point guards handled it better in the second half."
Blair, whose wife graduated from TCU, expressed his condolences to the TCU community for its football team being left out of the inaugural College Football Playoff.
"I'm awfully sorry that y'all didn't make (the playoff)," he said. "I don't agree with it, but I could see it coming listening to Kirk Herbstreit start bashing the Big 12 and talking about his alma mater at Ohio State."
Texas A&M: The Aggies shot 45.6 percent (31 for 68) from the field.
TCU: The Horned Frogs had won all three of their previous home games by an average of 16.7 points. They will be in Fort Worth for their next four games before opening Big 12 play at Texas Tech on Jan. 4.
Texas A&M is at SMU on Tuesday.
TCU hosts Lamar on Thursday.
